She was born in Salem, Oregon on 24/03/ She excelled as a dramatic mezzo-soprano in works by Verdi. While still studying at the University of Nevada, she was distinguished as a member of the Chorus of the Nevada Opera. She studied voice under the Opera's conductor, Ted Puffer. After getting her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music, she continued her studies at the Manhattan School of Music (New York). After winning a Bronze Medal at the 7th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, she was accepted in the San Francisco Opera Merola Program and debuted with the San Francisco Opera as Azucena (Il trovatore). She was distinguished for singing roles such as: Amneris (Aida), La Principessa Eboli (Don Carlos), Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera), Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Delilah (Samson et Dalila), Herodiade (Massenet's Herodiade), Leonore (La favorite) and more. She has also appeared as Marfa (Martha) in The Khovansky Affair (Khovanshchina), Jezibaba (Rusalka), Joan (The Maid of Orleans), Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana), Adalgisa (Norma) and Madame de Croissy (Dialogues des Carmélites). Dolora Zajick is one of the famed Verdi mezzos of the late 20^th and early 21^st century.
Born on March 24, , Oregon, she actually started off as a pre-med student at the University of Nevada before switching over to voice. She wound up graduating from the University of Nevada with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s music. From there, she went to the Manhattan School of Music.
In , she won the Bronze Medal in the International Tchaikovsky Competition becoming the first American to place in the contest in 12 years. From there she was a member of the Merola Program and in , she made her debut at the San Francisco Opera in “Il Trovatore.”
In she made her Met Opera debut in the same opera and would go on to an international career.
She has a large recorded legacy on both CD and DVD. Anne Midget called her “one of the greatest voices in the history of opera” in an article for the New York Times.
