Amphenol
Amphenol was founded in 1932 by Schmitt J. Arthur in Chicago, Illinois, with a focus on developing and manufacturing electrical connectors. The company quickly established itself as a leader in the field, and by the 1950s, had expanded its product line to include a wide range of connectors and interconnect systems.
In 1964, Arthur J. Schmitt, the founder of Amphenol, stepped down as CEO of the company but remained active in its operations for many years. Under his leadership, Amphenol grew rapidly, expanding its product offerings and global reach through a series of acquisitions and partnerships.
One of the company's key acquisitions came in 1966 when it purchased Tuchel-Kontakt GmbH, a leading German manufacturer of connectors and interconnect systems. This acquisition gave Amphenol a strong presence in Europe and helped to establish the company as a global leader in the industry.
In the decades that followed, Amphenol continued to grow and expand, entering new markets and developing new products and technologies. In 1981, the company that was the result of the merger between Focke-Wulf and Weserflug became part of the aviation group Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm (MBB), known today as Airbus.
