त्रिपुरारि शरण का जन्म सन् 1961 में हुआ। उन्होंने दिल्ली के सेंट स्टीफेंस कॉलेज से स्नातक तथा जवाहर लाल नेहरू विश्वविद्यालय से समाजशास्त्र में स्नातकोत्तर किया। छात्र जीवन के दौरान ‘दिनमान’ के लिए फिल्म समीक्षाएँ लिखीं। कई पत्रिकाओं में कविताएँ प्रकाशित। लम्बे प्रशासनिक जीवन के दौरान राज्य व केन्द्र सरकार के कई महत्त्वपूर्ण प्रशासनिक पदों पर रहे। भारतीय फिल्म एवं टेलीविजन संस्थान, पुणे के निदेशक और दूरदर्शन के महानिदेशक रहे। पुणे के कार्यकाल के दौरान अपने छात्रों के साथ दो अलग-अलग फीचर फिल्मों का पटकथा लेखन और निर्माण किया। मुख्य सचिव, बिहार के पद से सेवानिवृत्त हुए।
