Biography
Born c.1799 in Germany, John W. Lambert was the son of John Lambrecht and Ursula Zacharias. John Sr. was a British Army sergeant whose family accompanied his De Watteville Regiment as it moved about Europe. For instance, the family lived in Sicily from 1806-10 during the Napoleonic Wars. So essentially, John's childhood was spent in his father's regimental army camp.
His father's regiment was sent to Canada to augment British forces during the War of 1812-14. Arriving in June 1813, the Regiment comprised 41 officers, 1414 men, 45 wives and 38 children. John would have been about 14 years of age when he walked down t
